Dexpanthenol Chemical Structure

MODE OF ACTION

Dexpanthenol is an alcohol derivative of pantothenic acid, a component of the B complex vitamins and an essential component of a normally functioning epithelium. Dexpanthenol is enzymatically cleaved to form pantothenic acid, which is an essential component of Coenzyme A, which acts as a cofactor in many enzymatic reactions that are important for protein metabolism in the epithelium.

Dermatological effects of the topical use of dexpanthenol include increased fibroblast proliferation and accelerated re-epithelialization in wound healing. Furthermore, it acts as a topical protectant, moisturizer, and has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties

INDICATIONS

Coenzyme A (metabolite of Dexpanthenol) is important for deep penetrating moisturizer; stimulates epithelization; has wound healing effect; has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Only the D-Panthenol is the provitamin of D-Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), not the L-Panthenol.

A cream / ointment with Dexpanthenol regularly applied to the skin improves the moisture content of dry skin significantly.

Accelerates the healing of superficial wounds by approximately 30%.

An ointment/cream with Dexpanthenol prevents erythema due to UV light.

Dexpanthenol also protects the lips against solar herpes, Sun burns, mild burns, skin irritations, dry or cracked skin, cosmetic or shaving rashes, post chemical peeling treatment, post laser resurfacing treatment ( 11th -15th day).

Dexpanthenol is effective for preventing / treating nappy dermatitis in infants.
